Atta Cave / Castle Greifenstein
Come with us on a day trip to visit the largest dripstone caves in our country.
Our first stop will be at the Lake Bigge, one of the largest water reservoirs in western Germany, amidst a lovely nature park.
Enjoy this beautiful landscape before you enter “Germany’s subterranean world of wonder”. Accompanied by a guide we clamber down through the 80 m access gallery into the colorful world of artful stalactites and stalagmites. Marvel at stone curtains draping from the rock ceiling and be amazed by the largest interconnected cave system in German (6,5 km in total) visited by more than 40 million visitors from all over the world.
We will continue our journey to Castle Greifenstein (built 1160), one of the oldest feudal fortresses in Germany. Discover the old prison with many medieval instruments and devices of torture, creepy catacombs and an interesting church.
Castle Greifenstein is also the home of the German Bell Museum. You will find about 50 bells showing the development of bell pouring. Climb up the stairs to the big towers and enjoy a magnificent view of Greifenstein.
(note: Castle Grafenstein is closed on Mondays).
